In 1893 Ulysses S. Orange started a fruit stand in the fledgling town of Charleroi. His closest neighbor was a frog pond. He raised his family in their home above the store. The store has changed considerably over the years. From a fruit stand to a lunch counter/sundae shop with homemade candy to the present gift shop, Oranges has followed the changing trends and lifestyles in order to meet the needs of their customers. Ownership over the years has changed also. U.S. Oranges' daughter and son-in-law Lois and F.C. Ducoeur took over the business in the 1930's. In 1978 the business was passed to the next generation, Tom and Cora Ducoeur. Oranges is the oldest establishment in Charleroi that is still owned by the same family.
